Official presentation of the World Network of Mountain Biosphere Reserves
The World Network of Mountain Biosphere Reserves is composed of mountain territories around the world where the interaction between the environment and the people who live there has created a unique heritage.
On 16 May 2022, the Valles de Omaña y Luna Biosphere Reserve (member of the technical secretariat of the WNMBR) and Noeline Roandry Rakotoarisoa, Director of the MaB Programme, officially launched the World Network of Mountain Biosphere Reserves. This online meeting was attended live by 235 biosphere reserves from more than 80 countries.

Some of the goals of the WNMBR include promoting research to strenghten knowledge and management of mountain territories, facilitating the exchange of experiences and good practices among biosphere reserves, and reaching strategic agreements with other organizers in order to increase the influence and impact of the WNMBR. This way it is able to make use of the potential of this areas and address the challenges they face while drawing attention to their global importance.
The first actions of the WNMBR are to create its own website in several languages, to organize an exchange programme for technicians and managers of the biosphere reserves and to create working groups dedicated to particular topics such as conservation and sustainable use of resources, governance or climate change.
