New Mountain Research Internship Programme (MRIP)

UNESCO, through its Man and the Biosphere Programme (MAB), together with the GLOMOS programme (a collaboration between the United Nations University – UNU-EHS and Eurac Research), is launching the Mountain Research Internship Programme (MRIP), a new initiative aimed at young researchers interested in the sustainable development of mountain areas.What is MRIP?It is a three-month internship programme, structured in two phases:- An initial stay at Eurac Research (Italy), where work is carried out on applied research and data analysis; and- A practical phase in a mountain Biosphere Reserve, developing projects on biodiversity, local culture and sustainability.Key objectives:To provide hands-on experience in mountain socio-ecological systems.To foster interdisciplinary collaborationPromote conservation and environmental awarenessDevelop skills in scientific communication and analysisTo create links between science and managementWho is the target group?Master’s or PhD students in areas such as environmental sciences, biology, geography, ecology, etc., with an interest and commitment to mountain conservation and work in intercultural contexts.First pilot edition:Starts in October 2025, with a selection process from April. The World Network of Mountain Biosphere Reserves presents its roadmap for the next two years

On May 24, the third online meeting of the WNMBR took place, where the roadmap of this network for the next two years was shared. More than 120 people from at least 15 countries, representatives of the 5 continents, participated in the meeting, which was inaugurated by María Rosa Cárdenas on behalf of the international secretariat of the UNESCO MaB Program.
