The forests of the Biosphere Reserve hold a unique value, with less than 40 million hectares existing worldwide. It has been chosen as one of the 200 ecoregions harboring the most extraordinary and representative biodiversity, and ranks among the 25 most valuable and threatened ecoregions. These forests contain the largest and ecologically intact remaining remnants on Earth. They coexist with Mapuche-Huilliche communities and other inhabitants, integrating a biocultural relationship that breathes life into their mountains and rivers through ancestral connections.
