Member of Mountain Biosphere
Mont-Viso (France-Italy)
The Mont-Viso transboundary biosphere reserve is carried by two Regional Parks: the Parc naturel regional du Queyras in France and the Parco del Monviso in Italy. The reserve is based in the area of the Cottian Alps in a medium and high sized mountains environment but also includes the Po Valley area. This large range of habitats, from the +3000m peaks and the multiple alpine lakes to the Po River and its valley, gives to the biosphere reserve an exceptional biodiversity. Moreover, the geographic isolation of the area had given rise to a sustainable cooperation between Italian and French inhabitants from ages which created a strong local culture.
