Kon Ha Nung Highlan (Vietnam)
Covering an area of 413,512 hectares, the Kon Ha Nung BR comprise two core zones – Kon Ka Kinh National Park and Kon Chu Rang natural reserve on 57,493ha, and a 152,693ha buffer zone covering districts and communes of Dak Doa, Mang Yang, Kbang, Chu Pah, Dak Po and An Khe town.
Kon Ha Nung BR basically keeps intact the typical ecosystem of the Central Highlands of Vietnam, which is tropical closed forest with broad-leaved trees, coniferous trees, thin green coniferous forests, shrubs, grasslands… , with extremely rich biodiversity value: 1,754 species of higher plants, 91 species of lower plants, 87 species of mammals, 326 species of birds, 77 species of reptiles and many rare and endangered species.
One of the outstanding efforts of the BR is to promote community participation in forest management and protection activities and sharing benefits from forests in the corridor connecting the two core areas, with the goal of target biodiversity conservation, reduce pressure on forest resources while improving the lives of local communities in a sustainable way through promoting the participation of stakeholders and equitably sharing benefits and responsibilities and obligations in natural resource management.
Kon Ha Nung Highland is a long-standing residential area of ethnic minority communities, containing a rich and unique cultural heritage treasure, including the “Central Highlands Gong Cultural Space” – Cultural Heritage Intangible Chemistry of Humanity was recognized by UNESCO in 2005.
