Experiences of the World Network of Mountain Biosphere Reserves
La co-producción de conocimiento en sistemas pastoriles puneños de la Reserva de Laguna de los Pozuelos, Argentina
In the framework of the joint work that has been going on for several years between members of the research team VICAM: Vicuñas, Camelids and Environment (made up of researchers from CONICET and the National Universities of Jujuy and Luján), the Intercommunity Council of Santa Catalina (which brings together the Aboriginal Communities of Atu Saphi, Aucapiña Chambi and Peñas Coloradas-Canchillas), and the Producers’ Cooperative COOPASAC, numerous activities were carried out in relation to the co-production of knowledge in the area: Atu Saphi, Aucapiña Chambi and Peñas Coloradas-Canchillas), and the Cooperative of Producers COOPASAC, numerous activities related to the co-production of knowledge were carried out in the Biosphere Reserve Laguna de los Pozuelos, Jujuy, including surveys in the entire Pozuelos basin (380000 ha) and other specific activities in the locality of Santa Catalina, Jujuy and surroundings (21 °56‘ 47’ S, 66 °03‘ 07’ W). Among the activities carried out, within this framework of dialogue, the proposal to produce a book on local vegetation was born, as a way of capturing some of the information that has been compiled as a result of shared knowledge in the territory. This synergy enriches the way of working for the conservation of the pastoral landscape and the ways of life it sustains, and this book embodies that process, being written by 62 people: 5 scientists, students and teachers from the secondary school, shepherds and older adults from the community.
