Cat Ba Archipelago (Vietnam)
Located on the northeastern coast of Vietnam, the biosphere reserve comprises 90% of the Cat Ba Archipelago, including its surrounding waters and 366 karst limestone islets. The Cat Ba Archipelago is recognized nationally and internationally as a site of special importance for the conservation of marine and terrestrial biodiversity. It hosts seven main ecosystems (tropical forests, mangroves, tidal flats, sea lakes, coral reefs, soft bottoms, karst limestone caves) and the largest expanse of primary forest in the northern coastal region, along with some of the northernmost coral reefs in all of Asia. It is the first in Vietnam to hold the Biosphere Reserve Certification Label and a Biosphere Reserve Sustainable Development Fund.
