Experiences of the World Network of Mountain Biosphere Reserves
Somos agua: Applied research for conservation and the sustainable use of biodiversity as an adaptation strategy for climate change in the Valles de Omaña y Luna Biosphere Reserve
The Valles de Omaña y Luna Biosphere Reserve is a clear example of a rural mountain territory. Depopulation and scarce economic activity make this protected area particularly vulnerable to the loss of biodiversity and associated economic activities due to decrease in the availability of water resources as a result of climate change.
The project provides tools to adapt services to the needs of the population and natural resources to primary economic activities in the context of climate change.
To this end, it carries out applied research with companies, universities and other entities in the territory, relying on the processes of social participation active in the Valles de Omaña y Luna Biosphere Reserve.
